Christmas Cardinal

Christmas is nearly upon us and I hope yours will be filled with joy and the love of family.

I grew up in England where the tiny English Red Robin was a symbol of the Christmas Season.  We don't find those pretty little red breasted birds here in Canada.  What we do find is the very handsome Cardinal which I now regard as my Christmas symbol.  They are here all year round but in the bleak whiteness of winter they are an especially cheerful sight.

  1. I think I mentioned to you that Cardinals are my very favorites. I do everything I can to attract them so there are usually several nesting in the back yard. I have counted as many as 30 at my feeders in the front during the winter.

I guess they are my Christmas symbol also because I put many on my Christmas tree.

  3. I love seeing cardinals - on the hemlock branches or on the snow, both places sure show off his majesty!

  6. I don't know what happened to yesterday's comment, but I did make one. Cardinals are my favourite as well. We have a pair in the neighbourhood and I always rush to the window to try to catch a glimpse when I hear their call. My friend has one that chirps at her to fill the seed dish, waits on the fence and then hops down when she leaves. Cheeky thing!!

  7. Thank you all for your comments...they are great.
Just imagine having Carol's 30 cardinals at a time! Amazing.
On moving to the wilds of Nova Scotia I noticed the birds were not as bold as the urban ones we left in Ontario. Love AM's friend who has a cardinal demanding to be fed!

  8. So pretty! I would smile so bright if I saw one. We have lots of blue jays, but I don't think I've seen a cardinal.
